YouTube Changed How It Count Views on Long Videos, Shorts, and Live Videos?
YouTube enforced change to August 2024 and 2026. Now as the video begins, it will be counted as a view without calculating the minimum watch time.
You still have access to engaged views under “YouTube Analytics” in advanced mode.
Impact on YPP Monetization:
YouTube confirmed that there will be no impact on monetization. You will still earn based on “engaged watch hours” and “engaged Shorts Views.” The eligibility depends upon “qualified watch hours” and “qualified Shorts views."
The new public view count does not affect the existing earning settings.
Notably, in 2025, YouTube changed Shorts view counting. The February 2027 update will count the threshold views to impact monetization.
What Will Happen:
The number in your public view can rise quickly. Now the thing is to note if the change in the number of views impacts your earnings or not.
You should know that YouTube only pays for qualified views.
Conclusion:
As YouTube changed views count, it will add more exposure towards engagement. You still need to track the engaged views and watch time.
There are no separate metrics that you can check online.
You can check the reach and engagement reports on computers, Android, and iPhone.
