TikTok is working on spam-fighting technology that targets AI-generated content in niches like politics, finance, and health. These are the categories where most of the AI-generated spam videos are spreading. These categories are also crucial for people’s lives and interests. To keep the user interest safe, TikTok has decided to take down spammy content and accounts that spread mass AI-generated videos.

The goal is to get rid of misleading content from the TikTok platform.

TikTok is already testing spam-fighting technology at the account level. It has banned 86 million spam accounts from the platform.

Why TikTok Targets AI-Generated Spam:

Health, politics, and finance are the categories that impact people’s social, medical, and political decisions. These decisions can negatively impact the lives of the people. Unoriginal, spammy content and AI-generated videos without research can easily spread spam or misleading claims.

To prevent that and give the users a safe space to enjoy social media videos, TikTok is now targeting AI-generated spammy accounts.

Other Platforms Follow:

Not only TikTok, but other social media platforms like YouTube, Meta, and LinkedIn are also targeting repetitive videos with meaningless claims or unauthentic content. Google is also targeting AI-generated spam and removing groups that are publishing such content.

C2PA Committee Seat:

TikTok is part of the C2PA Committee Seat. It tracks the origin of the content and digital modifications.
TikTok claimed that it has been fighting spam for almost two years. Technology will help to fight spam across networks.

TikTok has already tagged more than 3 billion videos as AI content. It is labelling creators, content credentials, and watermarks. Google has also extended SynthID verification to Search and C2PA verification.

Why It is Necessary:

For user safety, it must remove AI-generated misleading content related to health, finance, and politics. TikTok is already fighting spam at the content and account level. Now the technology will give TikTok benefits to easily run platform-level analysis and target spammy or misleading content. It will also target unoriginal content.

Conclusion:

Now, it is up to TikTok what it defines as spammy content or an account, how it detects the spammy accounts, and if it removes the account or the content only. TikTok has not announced any official release date of this update. TikTok has also not announced if it will make any changes to the label feature.
